Hospice Care

Hospice is comfort care given to persons who are terminally ill. This care emphasizes pain control, caregiver needs, and emotional and spiritual needs. This care does not include cures to treat terminal diseases. This Medicare benefit consists of formal and informal care in private homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and freestanding hospice centers.

Hospice is a special type of palliative care provided to those with a prognosis of six months or less to live and begins after curative treatments stop and the illness is considered terminal.
