Things To Do with Grandkids

Oct 10, 2023 03:13PM ● By Alan Allegra
The days are turning cooler, so we need some cool things to do! Who says grandparents aren't cool? The coolest grandparents are the ones who can find time to take their grandkids to local events and attractions (without a lot of travel, which is cool, too!). With the holidays on the horizon—both scary and sacred—and harvest time and hometown teams, summer's departure shouldn't hold you and your loved ones back from having a good time together!

Since 1884 (a little before your time), Dorney Park and Willdwater Kingdom in Allentown has defined family fun for the Lehigh Valley. Dorney features two great parks for the price of one, spread across 200 acres of amusement! Although they close for the season in October Dorney features their Halloween Haunt and The Great Pumpkin Fest on select October days. Call or visit their website for days and hours. 4000 Dorney Park Rd. Allentown, 18104 | dorneypark.com | 610-395-3724

Do you still believe that coloring is just for kids? Let Crayola Experience in Easton change your mind! It's not just a place to buy crayons—there are immersive adventure labs, Meltdown Reimagined where kids can paint with melted wax (Remember when you were a kid and your mom yelled at you for leaving your crayons in the hot sun? No more!), a "cut, color, and paste" Activity Studio, Screamin' Green Hauntoween, and more! 30 Centre Square, Easton, 18042 | 610-515-8000 | [email protected]| crayolaexperience.com/easton.

If you want to spend a day outdoors in the indoors (Huh?), there are two “underground” destinations to visit in the Valley. Crystal Cave, located near Kutztown, is known for its abundance of milky-white formations that have thrilled visitors for over 145 years.

The endless number of crystalline formations on the walls and ceiling of Crystal Cave are what gave it its name. Join us as we go back in time and see Historic Crystal Cave by the glow of hand-held lantern light. You will hear stories about Crystal Cave that have never been part of the modern day cavern tour. This unique tour guarantees great family entertainment. 963 Crystal Cave Rd., Kutztown, 19530 | crystalcavepa.com | 610-683-6765

In business since 1930, Lost River Caverns, located in Hellertown, offers guided walking tours of a natural limestone cavern complete with an underground river! Gain insight into the geology of the cave and its formations, as well as the history of the property and surrounding community. Visit Gilman’s “At The Cave,” a jewelry, mineral and lapidary supply house providing stones, crystals, findings, and tools for all your collecting, stone-cutting, and jewelry-making needs! 726 Durham St., Hellertown, 18055 | lostcave.com | 610-838-8767

When cold weather settles into the valley and the kids are bouncing off the walls, bring them to a place where they can bounce off everything! Sky Zone is an indoor park full of one-of-a-kind attractions for kids and adults. Children can bounce, climb, and explore in a safe environment under your adult supervision. There are special programs for all ages that teach teamwork, sharing, and other skills. GLOW, Little Leapers, and other fun programs create unforgettable ways to defy the laws of gravity without defying your "No jumping in the house!" rule. Looking for a hassle-free birthday celebration? Sky Zone takes care of all the details, like private space, invitations, supplies, party host, and more! 2285 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem 18017 | 610-759-9663 | skyzone.com/bethlehem/#scroll-to-park-details.
