Donating Blood

The start of a new year is the perfect time to turn a new page. This year, support a charitable cause in the form of giving that can have an immediate impact on another person’s life: donate blood.

Blood shortages are happening nationwide, including here in NEPA. The COVID pandemic has created an increase in demand along with a poor donor response. Every two seconds, someone will need blood to sustain their life. You can help ease the stress of our blood supply by becoming a donor. It’s quick, safe, and easy! All blood types are needed and the process takes only about one hour.

Requirements Donors must be in good health, be at least 16 years of age, and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Additional criteria apply, including medications, medical history, and travel history. Donors must eat well and drink fluids prior to donation, and present a valid photo ID at the time of donation.

Where to donate Please reach out to a Blood Donation Center, such as the American Red Cross, to find the closest location or to find a blood drive near you. You can also reach out to your local hospital to find a donation center.
